About a 35-minute drive outside of Chiang Mai city sits the beautiful "Home at 9" Hotel and Airbnb in the village of San Klang. Surrounded by rice paddies, fruit trees, and nature's many sounds, it is the perfect place to watch the sunset from the pool deck, the cafe deck, or the available built-in hammocks decks over the rice fields. The owners take guest comfort very seriously in the best of ways. There are amazing little nooks and crannies all over with sitting spaces, both private and communal. Everywhere you turn there are interesting details. My favorite was the piano out in the middle of the rice paddy. If you get here, ask Thomas about the story!

love the random seating options, this was on the way to the piano. |
There was a communal well-stocked kitchen dining area where you could always access water, tea, eggs, fruits toasts, and local treats. Greens were everywhere and the use of local materials in the building and planning was stunning.
The pool also overlooked the rice field and was a wonderful way to cool off midday.
Relaxing with a glass of wine watching the sunset was exactly what was needed after a few days in the city. The Cafe had great fusion dishes, beer, and wine at very reasonable prices. Thomas and Joon were helpful and available. They have a great vision of enhancing the community, not taking it over. An example is the "Cafe" which offers fusion dishes and interesting concepts like pulled Jack Fruit sandwiches. They purposely do not offer typical dishes but do provide local places to go.
